How to Fix the Xbox 360 E79 Error – What Will Fix It?
When you hear about Xbox 360 errors there are 2 errors that come up the most often, and more often than not these errors can be fixed without having to send your console off to Microsoft. These errors that xbox will not turn on are known as; the red ring of death or RRoD for short and the E74 error. The majority of these errors and in fact all system errors occur after a system reboot, for example let’s say your playing your favourite game and suddenly the screen freezes, you wonder what’s going on so you reboot your console then you receive an error.error e 79 FIX
Red Ring of Death: The Red Ring of Death is caused by a mal-functioning GPU (Graphics Processing Unit). This can happen for many reasons. Perhaps the standard production thermal paste is worn out or perhaps the chip itself has become loose from the motherboard due to use of cold solder, which can leave air bubbles in between the chip and the motherboard causing it to crack. The heatsink may have come loose and began to touch the chip or on the contrary it isn’t close enough for the GPU to function properly. red rings of death fix There is a common “fix” known as the towel trick to fix this problem, however it is not recommended as this trick heats up your system and can cause further system damages. However, those of you whose Xbox 360′s are still in 3 years of purchase date your console can be fixed for free by Microsoft, but there is a lousy 4-6 week wait. For a much faster solution, see below.
E74 Error: This error in itself is very similar to the red ring of death, but is signified with a single red light as oppose to three. This error can be signaled by 3 causes:
- The A/V cable is not inserted correctly, try to disconnect it wipe the metal part with a dry wipe cloth then re-insert it.
- The ANA/HANA chip is loose.
- The GPU is mal-functioning (same problem as the red ring of death).
Unfortunately, with the E74 error you’re not covered my Microsoft’s 3 year extended warranty and if you want your console fixed you have to pay $140 + shipping and wait 4-6 weeks. For a much faster and considerably less expensive solution, see below.
